Music from the Anacostia Delta is by The Spellcasters (guitarists Joel Harrison, Anthony Pirog, and Dave Chappell and the late Danny Gatton's rhythm section: John Previti on acoustic & electric bass; and Barry Hart on drums), who celebrate the hybrid rockabilly/jazz/country music of the Anacostia Delta (DC/ northern VA/ southern MD) and the legacy of Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan
 via Fender Telecasters.

APRIL 2019 RELEASES
 

In April, Cuneiform released Escape Of The Fire Ants  by renegade Swiss brass band LE REX! The band's fourth album, it's our second release by the young and highly mobile group who are winning jazz & beyond audiences across Europe & worldwide. Featuring a line up of trombone, tuba, two saxes and drums, the edgy 'jazz' ensemble reinvents brass groove/ jazz/ brass band music with an indie-rock aesthetic.  Read the Press Release for Le Rex's Escape of the Fire Ants.

EMPIRICAL


London's Empirical are expanding jazz's reach with their music (embracing the future while respecting the past) and via innovative means ("pop-up jazz lounges" in Tube stations) to introduce jazz to the mainstream public. In 2019, in addition to playing live in the UK, Empirical bring their music for the first time ever to the USA, performing at festivals, jazz venues and art spaces.

FORGAS BAND PHENOMENA

 A truly phenomenal jazz-rock / electric jazz/ Canterbury-inspired jazz-fusion group based in France, Forgas Band Phenomena is led by composer/ multi-instrumentalist Patrick Forgas, a respected fixture on the European music scene for more than 4 decades. Celebrates a NEW Cuneiform release, L’Oreille Électrique, the band performs this summer in Italy.

THE ED PALERMO BIG BAND


Performing regularly at The Iridium and The Falcon, the Big Apple's beloved Ed Palermo Big Band, led by jazz composer/ arranger/ saxophonist Ed Palermo, hones its chops before the entire band travels overseas to perform at Germany's legendary Zappanale, the world's premiere festival devoted to the musical legacy of Frank Zappa.

The Spellcasters' celebrate their debut release on Cuneiform Records this month:  Music from the Anacostia Delta!!!!  The band revives, honors and expands the distinct hybrid (rock/ bluegrass/ blues/ country) guitar music unique to the Washington DC region and associated with the late guitarist Danny Gatton. The DC-based all-star quintet is three great guitarists – Anthony Pirog, Dave Chappell, Joel Harrison – and Danny Gatton's stellar rhythm section, John Previte (bass) and Barry Hart (drums).
